Discover Your Human Design Communication Style
Article written by Shaina
Communication is vital to the health of your business. As a former online business manager, I observed that the struggle in many companies was not only a lack of communication, but also when, what and how information was moving. My goal was to improve interactions with teams, clients, and everyone in between. I found the solution was to understand how each individual was designed to communicate.

A Human Design chart (or body graph) gives us the details we need to understand how we best communicate and ask for support.
Human Design is a self-knowledge system that takes components from western astrology, I’Ching, the mystical tree of life, the chakra system, and quantum mechanics to give you a map of your unique energetics – and the compass to navigate it. You can get your map for free at www.mybodygraph.com
Grab your chart and let’s learn more about your communication style!
Manifestors
Your communication style is: The Ice Breaker
You are here to be assertive and get conversations started. Your voice is impactful and inspires action in the other types.
Inform everyone who will be impacted by your actions of what you are doing so they can prepare. This isn’t about getting permission, this is about making your intentions clear so you get the best results.
When you need support, simply let your trusted team know exactly what your plans are, so they can help you get the work done. Your energy is not for everyone, and that’s okay! Avoid people-pleasing and don’t just put up with someone who doesn’t want to see you succeed for the sake of keeping the peace. Make sure you have the right people on your team who are ready to take the brilliant ideas from your mind and make them a reality.
When someone needs something from you, they should be clear about what they want, without telling you how to help them. You are a visionary and probably have a better way to do it anyways! You need autonomy. Inform those that need your support that you will act when you have the energy to do so. Then, let them know how you’ve decided to use your unique skills to support them.
Generators
Your communication style is: To the Point
You probably don’t like to be asked open-ended questions, especially if you’re not prepared for them. Even if you know the answer, open-ended questions can have you second-guessing yourself.
You need something to respond to. If someone asks you a question that is not in yes or no form, or at least multiple-choice, ask them to reframe the question. You need to know what is being asked of you and what the expectations are, so you can decide if you can help.
When you need support, talking things out and having someone give questions to elicit a response can be helpful. Just be sure to ask for polar questions. As an example, if someone says,
“What do you want for dinner?”
Ask them to give you options.
“Do you want tacos or spaghetti?”
“Do you want to eat out or eat at home?”
Simple yes or no, or this-or-that questions will get your brain moving in the right direction to understand how someone expects you to respond, and get your wheels spinning so you can start processing what it is you do you want to say.
Manifesting Generators
Your communication style is: Interactive
You have the unique sprinkle of Manifestor on top of your Generator design. You will use a combination of both styles. It can be helpful to read about both types first to understand how they fit into your unique communication style.
You may not like to be asked open-ended questions, especially if you’re not prepared to respond. Your mind is always running a mile a minute trying to make information more efficient, so the other types need to be straightforward and get to the point quickly.
While your Human Design strategy is to respond, you also have the added responsibility of informing. Generators need to know what someone wants and how they want it. You, on the other hand, need freedom, like the Manifestor, to decide how you will use your skills to support. This looks like first having something to respond to, and then informing those affected by your plan. Your words are impactful, so choose them wisely.
If someone is asking you a question that is not in alignment with how you best interact, ask them to reframe their question into a polar (yes/no, this/that) question instead.
When you need support, talking things out and having a sounding board to extract your thoughts can be helpful. Your voice carries weight, so listen to how you respond and what feels right for you.
Manifesting Generators have the gift of super speed. Remember to be patient with the other types, you’re tough to keep up with!
Projectors
Your communication style is: Invited to Guide
You can read people as soon as you meet them, and have an inner knowing of what is best for them. This can get you excited to let them know exactly what’s on your mind, but if they haven’t asked for your advice first, you might as well be talking to a brick wall.
You’ll get better results if you get invited to a conversation before you share your insights and opinions. Learning to control the impulse to open up before being invited will ensure your messages are heard and well received. Doing work that you have been invited to do is the difference between a real invitation and a false invitation. Be cautious when accepting work meant for anyone not specifically offered to you.
You can ask to be involved in a conversation that is important to you, just be sure to wait for the OK to give advice. When asking for support, write down in advance what you want, and make an effort to avoid thinking about what you don’t want. This will prevent you from complaining, so you can be open to receiving help and have positive exchanges. Then, request to have a conversation about your needs with your team and wait for them to be ready to hear you. Working with a team that recognizes your value is essential.
Reflectors
Your communication style is: No Pressure
This is the rarest type – all your energy centers are open. This means you take in a lot of energy from others and need time to process all that information to know what you want. This also means you can see from all perspectives, so people are comfortable talking to you. Delivering messages to the masses is your specialty.
Avoid being put under pressure; you need time to make a decision. If someone presses you for an answer, let them know you’ll need more time to process and reflect.
When asking for support, you can use any of the other strategies listed above. How well you communicate depends on the day and who you are communicating with. Since your superpower is amplifying the energy of others, you have inner guidance on which style will work best!
Take time to be alone. Taking on so much energy can be draining. Working on projects alone sometimes is suitable for you!
Managing Your Energy
The role your fluctuating energy plays in how well your messages are received is also important. As a rule of thumb, avoid complicated projects, making weighty decisions, or having hard conversations in your low-energy phases. Wait off on hiring/firing or implementing new processes. Your energy is lowest during your luteal and menstrual phases – or – the waning moon to the new moon if you have an irregular period, no period, or are in any stage of menopause.
Understanding your Human Design communication style, and the styles of those you interact with, will help you give and get support to improve both your business and personal relationships.
